Ever since the 6th grade, I’ve been in love with all things mythology. We had to read that book Mythology by Edith Hamilton (still widely read in schools these days), and that’s all it took. All the myths are amazing, but my favorite is the story of Cupid and Psyche. I also adore the variety of monsters and the story of The Odyssey. In fact when I’m not writing fun gift posts for this site, I’m writing mythology-themed books (Google it if you don’t believe me!).
I love all kinds of mythology, whether Greek, Egyptian, Norse, or other, and originally this post was going to be generic mythology gifts. But where’s the fun in that? Each mythology is so unique and each deserves its own post. That said, Greek is my favorite, so that’s where we’re starting. I’ve scoured the Internet looking for some cool Greek mythology things for anyone who loves mythology like I do, and I’ve come up with a list of my favorites. As a side note, I personally want every single one of these mythology-themed gifts just in case anyone is so inclined to buy me any (thought I do already own a few).
CENTAUR OF ATTENTION T-SHIRT
Mythology combined with puns? Sign me up! I would wear this T-shirt with pride, and I would enjoy every minute of being the Centaur of Attention. It comes in a variety of colors in both men’s and women’s sizes for however your gift receiver prefers to have T-shirts fit. I’m personally leaning toward the dark heather color myself. This shirt is bound to get attention when your special someone wears it.
GREEK SAILING SHIP MUG
I love the Odyssey, and I love ancient Greek sailing ships so much that I actually got one tattooed on my forearm. This mug is simple and beautiful. It’s subtle in its ties to mythology, making it a great choice for a wide variety of people, not just mythology die-hard fans like me. From the sun to the waves to the gorgeous artwork making up the ship, the design gives me the overall feeling of life being about the journey, not the destination.
MEDUSA MUG
I know I already posted a mug just before this, but I could not resist this Medusa mug. When it comes to monsters from Greek mythology, Medusa is perhaps my favorite (or possibly the Cyclops—it’s hard to pick one favorite monster). But I love the subtle humor of this mug, and it is how I feel most mornings after I’ve just crawled out of bed and am enjoying my morning coffee. Don’t Look at Me. Yes, I need this mug and your special someone is going to adore it, too.
CIRCE
There are books that I’ve enjoyed and then there are book that I’ve ENJOYED. Circe is definitely the latter. This book is clever and gorgeous, and I wanted it to continue forever. I loved reading about the life of the immortal Circe banished to her island of Aeaea and her connections to the larger mythological world. If your special someone loves mythology and enjoys reading, then this is a must-buy.
CARD GAME
Quick fun, Top Trumps is a card game with so many variations. Imagine how thrilled I was when I saw that there was a Greek mythology version of this game! Okay, if you’ve never played Top Trumps, it’s about the easiest game to learn ever, making it a great pick-up game to play when you’re hanging out with friends or family. The mythology version (which yes, I do own) pits Apollo against Medusa, the Cyclops against Odysseus, and many more. Super fun for kids and adults!
COIN ARTIFACTS
I love these replica antique coins, whether to carry around as good luck charms, to display, or to make into a pendant necklace. These are great if you’re looking for stocking stuffers (give one to each person), or if you want to get the whole set for one particular mythology fan. The set comes with Zeus, Athena, Apollo, and Nike, and each coin has a design on the front and back. They’re made of pewter and have been molded from Museum Quality Reproductions. Please note that although these are amazing and awesome looking like antiques, the coins are not antiques. They are new replicas!
